All mistakes and errors are my own. All flashes of brilliance, no matter how rare, are my own, except where I begrudgingly admit to borrowing the idea from someone much smarter.

I have used AI in my professional work (as sparingly as possible), and in my time as a college student (I am old enough to have gone to college before LLMs, but young enough to have done a semester on AI classifiers and Machine Learning).

I have enough expertise on Neural Networks, generative AI, Large Language Models, the Attention Mechanism, and Linear Algebra to write extensively on how it all works, the strengths and weaknesses of Machine Learning and associated technologies, how to build and train models, and I even have some novel ideas for specialised Machine Learning models.

I have no interest in writing about the above, as I feel the potential benefits of generative AI are vastly outweighed by the ways they are used and pushed today, as a tool to generate profit at the expense of creatives, consumers, and everyone who presents an obstacle to the bottom line of leading tech companies.

I do not write this blog to generate ad revenue, or waste anybody’s time but my own.

All posts to this blog are because I want to write about something and share it online, like the web was made for long before the garden walls of social media were erected, and LLMs were injected into every inch of our digital lives.

I cannot tell you not to use AI. But I do suggest you try doing something creative, however badly at first, without its help.

I am not a good writer; I am a worse artist, an even worse still musician; I am a passable programmer. But doing all of these things myself makes my life much more enjoyable than any time I could have spent passively consuming the output of a stochastic parrot.

This page was made as part of the /ai manifesto movement. Other authors of the movement may have less radical opinions about AI. Some use their manifesto as a place to record where they used to assistance of AI in the interest of transparency. While I may differ from those authors on the use of AI, we agree that it is important for creators to be clear and transparent about when AI is being used, for the benefit of those consuming what we create.
